“There is no such thing as a coincidence.”
Birdie said it and honestly? I believe her now.
Thrillers are not usually my thing. Like, at all. But this book was everywhere on my Instagram feed and I have zero resistance to a good algorithm trap, so I read the synopsis and that was it. I was done. Hooked before I even hit chapter one.
I went the audiobook route on this one and I cannot stress this enough — listen to the audiobook. Full voice cast, theatrical delivery, actual sound effects. It turned an already gripping story into a full sensory experience. I was not prepared. The creepy characters? So much creepier when someone is performing them directly into your ears. Alice Feeney wrote some people in this book that genuinely made my skin crawl, and the audio production leaned all the way in.
There was not a single moment I wasn’t on edge. Not one. My jaw dropped more times than I can count, and the ending had my brain running at full speed trying to process everything that just happened. The twists hit different when you’ve been holding your breath for six hours.
I’m also grabbed a physical copy because this book has earned a permanent spot on my shelf. Some books you read. Some books you keep. This is a keeper.
100/5 stars. I said what I said.
📚 I received an advance copy from NetGalley and Macmillan Audio — all spiral-inducing opinions are my own.
