This book was so refreshing!

I was initially drawn in by the cover because let’s be honest, that’s always the first move. But then I read the synopsis and I was like, wait! My millennial dreams all in this one book? 😭❤️

The nostalgia hit different. It felt like someone finally got it—that specific mix of what it meant to grow up in that exact cultural moment, with all the music and the chaos and the possibilities swirling around. And the storyline didn’t drag even a little bit. From the jump, I was invested.

Ruby reminded me, as a fellow mid-30s woman, to never lose yourself and the color of your world as you grow up. And honestly, I needed that reminder. There’s something about hitting this age where you start wondering if you’ve traded too much of yourself for… adulthood, I guess. This book said: don’t. Don’t do that.

The only thing I would’ve loved to see was a bit more background story between her and Penn. There’s chemistry there, but I wanted to feel how they got to that point a little more deeply. Still, that’s a small thing in an otherwise solid read.

Thank you, Laura, for the life lesson wrapped in a story that actually made me feel something. And thanks to Putnam and NetGalley for the ARC!
